The passage below is an excerpt from a letter written by the twenty-first century AP Lang student to his teacher, who was correcting English essays. Read the passage carefully. Then, in a well-written essay, analyze how the rhetorical strategies the student uses reveal his own values.

Dear ___________,

We were dismayed when we walked into class and found that you had left us an essay to write. You promised that there would be no more essays in class and that we would have the period to work on our project. We find this deliberate deception to be worthy of ________ and not yourself. We hold these truths to be self-evident that all AP Lang students are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights and that chief among these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
